Everything points new Nike Air Zoom Vomero 14 is one of the best updates for current season. Despite keeping its official name to make for potential buyers easier to identify it, the Air Zoom Vomero 14 is a completely new running shoe with modern and more aggresive design (inspired by Zoom Pegasus Turbo) than competitors. Although it is located one step above popular Air Zoom Pegasus 35 within Nike's lineup, current edition gets more attention than ever not only with mentioned eye-catch look but also by introducing several and interesting changes like using React as main foam in midsole. Definitely worth a try.
It does not make sense to go through strict comparison with theorical predecessor Air Zoom Vomero 13 because huge amount of changes. Current Vomero 13 is much more stylish with midsole's side walls wrapping the front of the heel cup in a similar way Brooks does with Guide Rails™ technology to improve stability. Upper is based on engineered mesh which partially hides Flywire cables for supportive fit in the midfoot. Larger collar pad provides enhanced support in Achilles area (very similar to "S-Curve" from Adidas) while foam pods inside the collar hug offer premium comfort expected for high price tag.
From the technology point of view the most interesting thing in new Air Zoom Vomero 14 is the midsole made of mentioned React for smooth ride which unfortunately does not include any carbon fiber plate like impressive Zoom Fly Flyknit but a single full-length Zoom Air unit instead of typical solution of decoupled ones. Outsole premiers a surprisingly deep groove which clearly sets two areas with different configuration: external one based on almost horizontal studs made of more durable rubber and internal one where hexagonal lugs of multiple sizes depending on the area replace typical pentagonal ones.
