Description
The New Balance Fresh Foam X Hierro v9 redefines New Balance's trail shoe with a dual-density Fresh Foam X midsole that offers the most generous cushioning in the line. With 42 mm at the heel and 38 mm at the forefoot, it provides great protection for moderately technical terrain and long runs on trails. The 4 mm drop favours a natural stride without sacrificing comfort; if anything, the issue would be stability with that slab of midsole it sports. Its launch price places it in the premium trail running segment, so you had better like designs inspired by contour lines.
The most significant update comes in the outsole: Vibram Megagrip with redesigned 6 mm lugs that offer improved traction in both wet and dry conditions, a notable improvement over its predecessor. The engineered mesh upper with an integrated tongue protects against stones and trail debris while staying breathable. The Toe Protect overlays at the toe defend against rocks and roots on the most technical sections, since nobody escapes a good knock on the toes.
Ideal for neutral runners looking for a versatile shoe for long-distance trail running and mixed terrain. Perfect for ultras and mountain training where cushioning is the priority. Compared with the Speedgoat 7 it offers a touch more midsole, both with plenty of stack, while compared with the Cascadia 19 it is more cushioned, so you will look taller. The Peregrine 16 is its most direct alternative in grip and versatility, oh, the pull of a Vibram outsole.
