La Sportiva Bushido 3

The third instalment of the line, the La Sportiva Bushido 3 (or Bushido III), returns with the same DNA that made it a benchmark for technical trail: exceptional grip, rock-solid stability and that feeling of total control on committing terrain. After two versions that had already refined the concept, this third iteration arrives with subtle but significant tweaks: a lighter, more breathable upper, a slightly roomier forefoot so as not to penalise runners with a generous forefoot, and a new outsole lug pattern that keeps the legendary grip on wet or dry rock. The Bushido 3 positions itself as an interesting option against rivals in the trail segment, above all thanks to the confidence inspired by a specialist brand with a reputation for quality, which lets it justify relatively high prices.

The changes from earlier versions are deliberately restrained. The Italian brand knows that when something works, you do not touch it. The AirMesh upper improves ventilation without losing the characteristic protection: heat-sealed overlays, a durable rubber toe cap and the unmistakable STB system that wraps the midfoot for a surgical fit. The thinner tongue and traditional laces ensure a solid lockdown at the heel and arch. If you liked the earlier versions, you are going to love this one. If you never tried them because they seemed narrow, give them another chance.

The midsole keeps the philosophy of staying close to the ground, with a low profile and moderate drop, compressed EVA and a forefoot rock guard that protects without cutting you off from the terrain. There are no supercritical foams or promises of 80% energy return here: there is real ground feel, stability on side slopes and the confidence to run down where others walk. The Frixion® Red (XT 2.0) outsole, with a dual compound that is sticky in the centre and durable at the sides, is simply the best traction you will find on rock, wet or dry. Ideal for technical terrain, skyrunning and long hikes over rough ground.
