Description
The Hoka Arahi 9 is the American brand's moderate-stability daily trainer, the supportive counterpart of the popular Clifton 11, designed for overpronators who want generous cushioning without entirely giving up a smooth-rolling feel. It sits below the Gaviota 6 in Hoka's support range, offering a lighter, more affordable option than the flagship but with the same philosophy of smooth transitions. It is the typical shoe that does not stand out in any way but does the job well, and those are usually the best value for money.
Compared with its predecessor, the Arahi 8, the changes are in the details rather than the concept: the engineered mesh upper, with a snugger weave in the midfoot, haptic touches and 3D silicone dots, improves breathability and comfort, while the redesigned collar and heel pull tab make it easier to put on. The fit is true to size, with a last that wraps the foot without surprises, and it comes in different widths. That is always welcome, although subject to availability. The ride is slightly softer than in the previous version, while keeping the smooth, stable roll that defines the line.
The dual-density CMEVA midsole forms the H-Frame system, which places firmer foam in an open H shape supporting both the medial and lateral sides, guiding the foot without being intrusive. With an 8 mm drop and 39 mm of stack height at the heel, the shoe favours heel strikers, while the Meta-Rocker geometry smooths the stride. The high-abrasion rubber outsole stands up well to daily wear. Ideal for mild to moderate overpronators who want a stable, comfortable and versatile shoe for road miles, lighter and less ambitious (which translates into cheaper) than the flagships.
