Description
The Brooks Hyperion Elite 6 is the most convincing race-day super shoe Brooks has released to date: the line finally closes the gap on the big plated rivals. It keeps the PEBA-based DNA Gold midsole and the SpeedVault+ carbon plate, but the formula feels softer and more responsive than in the Hyperion Elite 5, with a smoother transition and a forefoot geometry that adds the spark previous editions lacked. With 39 mm of stack height at the heel and 32 mm at the forefoot (7 mm drop), it stays within the World Athletics stack limit and keeps the weight down, making it a real weapon for road races from 10K to the marathon.
The flat knit upper is almost see-through: extremely light, very breathable and with a snug fit that wraps the foot with no excess material. Brooks has widened the base under the midfoot and added sidewalls that clearly improve stability compared with the previous version, which tended to feel narrow and poorly centred. The fit is still true to size, although some runners find the toe box a little narrow, and the heel collar is minimal, with a rather unusual design that can rub the Achilles tendon unless worn with thick socks. It is actually quite reminiscent of the Cascadia Elite, and not only because of the oversized "Brooks" on the outer side.
On the run, the Hyperion Elite 6 is more approachable than most super shoes, whose demanding nature, as much as their sky-high prices, has kept them from spreading further: it does not force a rigid stride or punish you at moderate paces, but it comes alive at race pace, where the combination of DNA Gold and SpeedVault+ delivers steady, drama-free propulsion. Ideal for runners looking for a reliable racer without losing their heads in the process, especially loyal fans of the American brand.
