Asics Trabuco 14
The Asics Trabuco 14 is a neutral trail running shoe.

Description

The Asics Trabuco 14 debuts the bouncy FF BLAST MAX midsole, the same aerated compound that is already a hit in the Novablast 5, to deliver a more responsive and lighter ride without losing the protection the line is known for. With 36 mm at the heel and 28 mm at the forefoot (an 8 mm drop, to make the maths easier), the stack height is generous, but the supercritical compound keeps it stable on uneven terrain. The jacquard mesh upper with welded reinforcements improves fit and breathability, while the integrated rock plate protects from sharp stones and roots. With proven ASICSGRIP rubber, the Trabuco 14 is the ideal companion for technical trails, wet descents and runners looking for maximum cushioning without sacrificing traction.

The most important evolution comes in the midsole: nitrogen-infused FF BLAST MAX offers more energy return and keeps its properties for more kilometres than conventional EVA or the FF BLAST PLUS of the Trabuco 13, which tended to flatten out after 500 km, which was not that bad either. Compared with the Speedgoat 7, it wins on responsiveness and lightness but gives up some maximum stack height; against the Sense Ride 4, it offers more cushioning and protection but less direct ground feel, which is an advantage when there are sharp rocks.

In the mountains, the Trabuco 14 shines over medium and long distances at easy paces. The combination of protective cushioning and ASICSGRIP traction makes it exceptional on uneven trails, wet roots and loose rocks. The upper improves the fit over previous versions, although some runners with wide feet will need to try half a size up. It is not the most agile shoe for fast paces or very technical terrain, but as a tool for piling on the kilometres with fresh legs, it is hard to beat. Durability is remarkable: sealed reinforcements in the upper, an ASICSGRIP outsole of proven longevity and a midsole that does not lose its properties early; there is not much more you can ask for. Compared with the Pegasus Trail 3, it wins on protection and traction but gives up some versatility for mixed road and trail use.
