The reliable New Balance 880 v7 follows the update from its counterpart with pronation control 860 v7 and stays true to classical concept of training shoe with abundant cushioning and solid performance at fair price, great value for money. The 880 v7 does not get the attention neither latest technologies of the Fresh Foam 1080 v7 but depending on the user might be a better option for daily workouts and long distances.
Upper gets rid of few seams already present in its predecessor 880 v6 and uses Fantom Fit fused elements to reduce chafing. Mesh in forefoot is made of two layers and external fabric reminds popular Flyknit from Nike or PrimeKnit from Adidas with several holes to increase breathability. Inverted "v" has been replaced in forefoot with 3D Resin screen print to provide custom fit in every step. As usual, big "N" on both sides identifies every running shoe from Boston's brand.
Midsole from 880 v7 looks impressive and is made of two different density foam layers with firmer top one (TRUFUSE) for better response and softer bottom one for long term comfort. Although there is no proper pronation control like in mentioned 860 v7, typical embedded TPU shank in midfoot combined with solid heel counter deliver good stability for neutral runners. Outsole keeps simple configuration with two cross grooves which provide more flexibility than expected for smooth transition. More exposed areas use harder rubber (Ndurance™) for longer durability, something heel strikers will definitely appreciate.
