Mizuno Wave Inspire 22
The Mizuno Wave Inspire 22 is a stability cushioned running shoe.

Description

The Mizuno Wave Inspire 22 is the supportive counterpart for overpronators of the Wave Rider 30, the best option in the Mizuno range for runners who pile on the miles every day and want more stability. Where the Rider goes for a neutral ride and the Wave Sky 9 for maximum cushioning, the Inspire keeps the Wave plate to stop the arch from collapsing, with a base considerably wider than that of the Rider and foam sidewalls that cradle the foot. Moderate, unobtrusive stability, so much so that at times it does not feel like a shoe specifically for overpronators.

Compared with its predecessor, the Inspire 21, this is one of the deepest updates of the line in years. The most noticeable change is the drop, which goes down from 12 to 10 mm, something many had been asking for and that makes it more versatile. The upper is a dual-layer jacquard mesh, with the tongue attached to the sides so the foot does not move around inside. The last is not narrow and wraps the forefoot and midfoot well, although the weak point is at the back: the heel has little padding and limited lockdown, which may leave runners with narrow feet not entirely comfortable. As always, try it on in a physical shop if in doubt.

The midsole debuts the Enerzy NXT compound, with a softer nitrogen-infused top layer over a denser EVA-based Enerzy NXT bottom layer, working together with a Mizuno Wave plate that is flatter and less rigid than ever. With a considerably tall stack, the forefoot gains cushioning over the previous version and feels softer, although responsiveness is not one of its strengths and nobody expects it to be. The X10 rubber outsole is a classic from the Japanese brand that undoubtedly performs superbly and withstands wear very well. Ideal for mild to moderate overpronators looking for a stable, durable shoe with no surprises for daily runs and long runs.
