Description
The Hoka Arahi 8 is the American brand's moderate-stability daily trainer, designed for overpronators looking for generous cushioning without giving up a smooth-rolling feel. It sits below the Gaviota 6 in Hoka's support range, offering a lighter and more affordable (less expensive) option than the flagship, but with the same philosophy of smooth transitions. It competes in the pack of daily stability shoes with models such as the Asics GT 2000 14 or the Saucony Guide 19.
Compared with its predecessor, the Arahi 7, the most notable change is the replacement of the classic J-Frame system with the dual-foam H-Frame™, the same one that debuted in the Gaviota 5, which gives a more centred and less intrusive sense of stability throughout the stride. The double jacquard mesh upper gains volume and width, especially in the toe box and instep, correcting one of the weak points of previous editions. The tongue stays well anchored and the collar keeps restrained padding that holds the heel without squeezing too much.
The CMEVA midsole is slightly softer than in the previous version, which improves comfort on long runs and easy paces, although the feel is still firmer than in the Clifton or Bondi. With an 8 mm drop, the shoe favours heel strikers, while the geometry smooths the stride. The rubber outsole stands up well to daily wear, although it is nothing out of the ordinary. Ideal for overpronators who want a stable, comfortable and versatile shoe for road miles, cheaper and less ambitious than the flagships.
