Description
The Brooks Launch 12 is the ultimate lightweight shoe for runners who want versatility at a competitive price, and it still looks like a running shoe rather than a monstrosity of colossal proportions. With its nitrogen-infused DNA FLASH foam midsole, it delivers exceptional energy return while keeping the weight down. Version 12 adds DNA FLASH v2 in the forefoot, softer and more responsive, for smoother transitions and a more energetic toe-off. The RoadTack rubber outsole with recycled silica provides durable traction. Ideal for daily runs, changes of pace and runners who value a versatile, affordable shoe.
Compared with its predecessor, the midsole keeps DNA FLASH but adds DNA FLASH v2 in the forefoot for more energy. The airy mesh upper is more breathable, giving a secure, light fit. With 35 mm of stack height at the heel and 27 mm at the forefoot (an 8 mm drop, in case anyone's maths does not add up), it sits in the mid range for cushioning. Against rivals such as the Hoka Mach 7, the Launch 12 offers more lightness and a better price; compared with the New Balance Rebel v5, it gains in durability but gives up some initial softness.
On the run, the Launch 12 shines on controlled runs and changes of pace. The combination of DNA FLASH and DNA FLASH v2 gives a responsive ride that invites you to speed up. It is protective enough for long runs yet agile enough for intervals, which makes it a classic lightweight trainer. The fit is secure in the midfoot and roomy in the toe box. Outsole durability is excellent thanks to the RoadTack rubber. At 247 g (men's), it is one of the lightest options in its category. Compared with the Adidas Adizero Boston 13, the Launch 12 offers more versatility for varied paces; against the Saucony Endorphin Speed, it wins on value but gives up some plate technology.
