Asics Gel Nimbus 27
The Asics Gel Nimbus 27 is a neutral cushioned running shoe.

Description

The Asics Gel Nimbus 27 arrives to reaffirm its status as the queen of maximum cushioning at Asics. With a renewed FF Blast+ ECO midsole and a PureGEL unit under the heel, this edition offers a softer, more protected ride than ever. The engineered jacquard mesh upper wraps the foot with a comfortable, breathable fit, while the new HYBRID ASICSGRIP outsole improves traction in the dry and wet. Ideal for neutral runners who prioritise comfort on long runs and easy miles, the Nimbus 27 is the natural evolution of the longest-running line of max-cushioned shoes, a category very much in fashion lately with the rise of maximalist shoes.

Compared with its predecessor, the Gel Nimbus 26, the changes are subtle but significant. The midsole keeps the maximalist philosophy but adjusts the density to offer a more balanced feel: still soft, but with better stability through transitions. The upper gains structure without losing its premium feel, and the padded collar gives a more secure fit around the ankle. The drop stays at 8 mm, perfect for heel strikers without giving up a more or less natural transition. Against rivals such as the Saucony Triumph 23, the Nimbus 27 offers more cushioning underfoot (43.5 mm vs around 40 mm) and a launch price that makes it a premium option in the segment; not for nothing has it long been the queen of neutral shoes.

On the run, the Gel Nimbus 27 shines on easy runs and piling up the miles. The combination of FF Blast+ ECO and PureGEL absorbs impact exceptionally well, leaving your legs fresh the next day. It is not a shoe for fast paces: its weight (295 g in a men's size) and its rather soft character make it far from nimble for intervals or changes of pace, but as a daily training tool for medium and long distances, it more than delivers. Outsole durability is notable, with rubber placed in high-wear areas that promises to last many miles. Compared with the Hoka Clifton 10, the Nimbus 27 offers a more luxurious upper and more consistent cushioning; against the Vomero 18, it wins on pure comfort but gives up some responsiveness. Almost a matter of personal preference, colourway and taste (or quirks) for the brand.
