Description
The Altra Torin 8 is the daily trainer that redefines comfort for neutral runners. With its 30 mm platform and the brand's trademark 0 mm drop, it offers a natural stride that respects the biomechanics of the foot without sacrificing cushioning. In theory it combines quality construction with the appeal of "zero drop", a combination that is not common in the shoe market. Compared with other shoes, it stands out for its focus on long-distance comfort and its natural ride, not only because of that drop but also because of the shape of the shoe, designed to encourage natural foot movement.
The breathable jacquard mesh upper, combined with a completely redesigned heel collar, offers a more secure fit than the Torin 7. The FootShape™ toe box lets the toes splay naturally, but runners with very, very wide feet may miss the room of the classic Altra versions. The unpadded tongue improves ventilation on summer runs, a welcome detail as the miles add up, although those who lace up tight will miss some padding.
The EGO Max midsole of the Torin 8 offers balanced cushioning with acceptable energy return, ideal for easy runs and daily training. If you are looking for something with more punch for intervals while keeping plenty of cushioning, the Ride 18 is a more dynamic option. For those who prefer maximum protection, the Glycerin 23 or the Nimbus 28 offer more padding, but also a much bigger drop. The rubber outsole in strategic zones promises durability; what else would it do. Pay special attention, because no "zero drop" shoe will fix your technique by magic (a few years ago there were lawsuits over misleading advertising when Vibram FiveFingers became very popular), but the Torin 8 will make you more aware of how you land, although it may require a period of adaptation.
